Hornbill Festival – The Festival of Festivals
Often referred to as the “Festival of Festivals”, the Hornbill Festival is the grand cultural celebration of Nagaland, showcasing the rich heritage, traditions, and vibrant lifestyle of the state’s multitudes of indigenous tribes. Held annually from 1 st to 10 th December at the picturesque Naga Heritage Village of Kisama, near Kohima. The festival has become one of India’s most spectacular cultural events.
Named after the revered Great India Hornbill, a bird deeply embedded in the
Naga folklore and traditions, the festival brings together the diverse tribes of
Nagaland on a single platform. Each tribes takes pride in presenting its unique customs, traditional attire, folk songs and dances, crafts, and culinary crafts, weaving together a dazzling tapestry of culture and heritage.
Visitors are immersed in an extraordinary spectacle of warrior dances,
indigenous games, traditional music, log drum performances and of course,
mouthwatering ethnic cuisines prepared with age-old recipes and terroir-based ingredients.
