Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati and Transfer to Shillong – The Adventure Begins
Our team will welcome you at the Lokarpiya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati. We’ll straightway proceed to Tezpur on the northern bank of the mighty Brahmaputra. It’ll be a 3 hours drive. Tezpur, the cultural hub of Assam, is the perfect agglomeration of history and modernization. While its history goes back beyond the days of Aniruddh (the grandson of Lord Krishna), places of learning like the magnificent Tezpur University and the Tezpur Medical College & Hospital speaks volume of the city’s modernisation. Monabari TE, Asia’s largest tea estate is also located within Tezpur. We’ll spend the night in Tezpur. Early to bed is advisable, in anticipation of long drive in the hilly terrain on the morrow.

Arrival: Your journey begins with a warm welcome at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station. Our representative will meet you and assist you in your transfer to Shillong (approximately a 3-hour drive, 100 km).
Stopover at Umiam Lake: On the way to Shillong, you’ll stop at the picturesque Umiam Lake—a stunning, tranquil reservoir surrounded by lush hills. It’s a perfect spot for photos, so be sure to capture the serene beauty of this location, often referred to as Barapani by the locals. Spend some time here enjoying the view and perhaps taking a leisurely boat ride on the lake.
Hotel Check-in: Upon arrival in Shillong, check in to your hotel, unwind, and soak in the cool mountain air.
Evening Leisure: Explore Police Bazaar, the bustling heart of Shillong. Enjoy shopping for local crafts, sample authentic Khasi street food, and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the city.
Today we’ll drive into the Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh, the land of rising sun. Our destination today will be the stone village of Dirang (1560m), a 6 hours drive. About an hour’s drive from Tezpur we’ll reach Tipi Orchidarium, a one of its kind in India. The Orchidarium offers a visual treat of over 7500 orchids from around 3000 species. Next in our travel path will be Bomdila, the land of apple orchards and Gompas. Dirang, wherein we’re going to put up for the night, is an hour’s drive from Bomdila.
Day 2: Shillong Sightseeing – Explore the Charm of the Hill Station
After an early breakfast we’ll hit the road to Tawang (3000 m), the land of the Monpa. Enroute to Tawang we’ll come across such lodestones as the Jung/Nuranang Waterfalls, the Jasawantgarh War Memorial and the famed Sella pass (4170 m). Keeping in account time for photography/selfie and magi (noodles), we’ll be on the road for six hours before we check in at our designated accommodation in Tawang. The evening can be spent by a visit to the local market and/or enjoying the light and sound show.
Breakfast: Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel.
Shillong Peak: Head to Shillong Peak, where you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the city and the surrounding Khasi Hills. It’s the perfect spot for photos and to soak in the beauty of the region.
Elephant Falls: Next, visit Elephant Falls, a stunning three-tiered waterfall nestled in the lush green hills. It’s a serene and picturesque spot, perfect for nature lovers.
Don Bosco Museum: Dive deep into the diverse cultures of Northeast India at the Don Bosco Museum. This fascinating museum showcases traditional costumes, art, crafts, and exhibits that reveal the rich history and heritage of the region’s indigenous tribes.
Ward’s Lake: Take a peaceful stroll around Ward’s Lake, a serene man-made lake surrounded by beautiful gardens. For a unique experience, you can even go for a boat ride on the lake.
Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians: End your day with a visit to the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Shillong, offering a moment of tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle.
Return to Hotel: After a day filled with exploration, return to your hotel for a restful night.
Let’s start the day by paying obeisance to Lord Buddha at the Tawang Ganden Namgyal Lhatse Monastery, the second oldest and largest monastery in Asia. Thereafter we’ll move to the Indo-China border (two and half hours drive) to have a firsthand experience of the lofty Bumla Pass (5000 m) and enjoy the beauty of the resplendent Sangestar Lake aka Madhuri lake. One has to take special permission from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Tawang for the Indo-China border drive. The evening is dedicated to the local Monpa cuisine and drinks.
After two days of exhilaration in Tawang, today we’ll move downhill to Bomdila. We’ll take a small detour to Sangti Valley – an unadulterated beauty of nature. After the soaring snow capped heights of Tawang the limitless green meadows and rolling hills of the Sangti Valley is a welcome treat to the eye. Afterwards we’ll take a soul and body rejuvenating bath in the Hot Spring near Dirang. Thereafter we’ll check in at our designated hotel in Bomdila. We’ll retire for the night early tonight, in anticipation for our long drive tomorrow.

Day 3: Day Trip to Mawlynnong and Sohra (Cherrapunji) – A Nature Lover’s Paradise
Early Breakfast: Start the day early with a filling breakfast before embarking on a journey to the “cleanest village in Asia.”
Drive to Mawlynnong: Head towards Mawlynnong Village, located about 78 km (2.5 hours drive) from Shillong. Known for its cleanliness, Mawlynnong offers a glimpse into a lifestyle that is as beautiful as it is sustainable.
Living Root Bridge: Visit the famous Living Root Bridge, an engineering marvel formed by the roots of trees, which the locals have cultivated over generations. This natural bridge is not only an architectural wonder but also an embodiment of the deep connection between nature and the Khasi people.
Lunch in Mawlynnong: Enjoy a traditional Khasi meal in the village, savouring the Flavors of local cuisine.
Proceed to Sohra (Cherrapunji): Continue your journey to Cherrapunji (approx. 1.5 hours drive), known for its stunning landscapes and heavy
rainfall. Cherrapunji is home to some of the most beautiful natural attractions in the world.
Nohkalikai Falls: Visit the Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. Stand at the viewpoint and marvel at the cascade of water plunging over the cliff—a truly awe-inspiring sight.
Mawsmai Cave: Explore Mawsmai Cave, a limestone cave with fascinating rock formations and a labyrinth of passageways. It’s a must-see for adventure seekers.
Seven Sisters Falls: End your day with a visit to Seven Sisters Falls, a breathtaking multi-tiered waterfall, flowing with grandeur during the monsoon season.
Return to Shillong: After a day of natural wonders, drive back to Shillong for your final night’s stay.
Post breakfast we’ll take the newly built and less congested road from Bomdila to Guwahati via Kalaktang, by passing Bhalukpong and Tezpur. Today’s drive will be a long one – approximately 8 hours. After reaching Guwahati, we’ll check in, refresh and take a leisurely dinner.
Day 4: Return to Guwahati and Kamakhya Temple Visit – A Spiritual Farewell
Early morning we’ll visit Maa Kamakhya Temple- to express our gratitude to Maa for an uneventful sojourn. Thereafter we’ll head to either Guwahati Railway Station or Airport, according to the requirement.
Early Morning Checkout: Begin your final day with an early breakfast and checkout from the hotel.
Drive to Guwahati: Embark on the scenic 3-hour drive back to Guwahati.
Kamakhya Temple Visit: On the way, visit the iconic Kamakhya Temple, situated atop Nilachal Hill. This ancient temple, dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, is one of India’s most revered Shakti Peethas. The temple’s spiritual significance and stunning architecture make it a must-see for anyone traveling through Assam.
Departure: After your spiritual visit to Kamakhya, our team will escort you to the Guwahati Airport or Railway Station for your departure, marking the end of your extraordinary 4-day journey.
