Itinerary
Day 1: City of Eastern Lights
Situated on the banks of the red river, the Brahmaputra, Guwahati is the gateway to the North Eastern region of India and is a major metropolis. Historically it was called Pragjyotishpur and/or Kamrup. The city is an epitome of amalgamation of the past and the present. Behind the modern structures of the city lies tales that anachronize back to more than thousand years- Kamakhya temple, Sukreswar temple, Umananda temple, Dighali Pukhuri etc have their own legends. It’ll be a free day –depending on the mood, weather and time one can either go for shopping (the famed pat muga silk or bell metal items), or walk on the banks of the Brahmaputra or enjoy a cruise on the red river.
a) Pick up from Guwahati Airport or Railway station
b) Check in at Hotel
Day 2: The Kaziranga Trail
It’s a futile exercise to describe the Kaziranga National Park in words. One needs to see it to understand it. It has the highest population of the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. The big five of KNP – rhino, royal Bengal tiger, wild water buffalo, Asiatic elephant, and eastern swamp deer is a must-see for everyone. It’s a paradise for bird lovers too. Numerous migratory birds have made KNP their home.
a) Post breakfast (7:30 am latest) proceed by car to Kaziranga National Park
b) Check-in and Lunch
c) Post – Lunch: Jeep Safari in Agoratoli
d) Evening: free/ bonfire/ dinner
Day 3: Elephant Grass
A unique experience awaits us today; an experience one will cherish throughout his/her life
a) At the break of dawn we’ll move to Bagori range for the elephant safari; a 45-minute drive from Agoratoli. We request our guests to put on warm clothes as it’ll be quite cold in the morning hours and also to refrain from Using camera flash during the safari.
b) Post safari we’ll come back to Agoratoli Range for breakfast and prepare for the next leg of the trip.
After the exhilarating elephant safari, it’s time for a long drive. Today we’ll shift our base from the plains of Assam to the hills of Meghalaya, “the abode of clouds”. We’ll stay overnight in Shillong aka the Scotland of the East. As the vehicle climbs up along the meandering highway, breathtaking the landscape of the rolling hills lined with pines and meadows and sequinned by numerous lakes and waterfalls greets the visitor; a landscape akin to that of the highlands of Scotland. We recommend our guests step out of the vehicle, keep the cameras and other electrical gadgets aside, and just breathe in and enjoy the fresh and fragrant hill air. We’ll have lunch at Sonapur, a small town in Assam about 15kms from the Assam- Meghalaya border.
Day 4: Mystic Meghalaya
Today is the day of purity and freshness. We’ll drive down to Dawki, a small enchanting township in the West Jaintia Hills, bordering Bangladesh. On the way, we’ll pass Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia. The pristine Umngot river flows through Dawki and a boat ride on the crystal clear turquoise water of the river makes one feel like floating on the transparent glass; one needs to experience it to believe it. Hidden in the folds of the hills is a cozy little hamlet, Shnonpedeng where we’ll halt for the night.

It’ll be a two hour drive. Mawsynram, which receives the highest rainfall in India, is only about 15kms from Sohra.
